My Approach to Therapy

My overall aim in working with you is to assist you to overcome the unhealthy mental, emotional and psychological barriers that affect your mindset. I am passionate about seeing you regain your confidence, rebuild your self esteem and view life from a healthier place of achieving and being your best self. I especially help leaders, business/entrepreneurs, professionals who may be struggling for one reason or another, as I understand what that feels like. An Improvement Mindset can be a game changer.

As a Psychotherapist and counsellor practising CBT, I will largely draw upon the therapeutic knowledge and practice of Albert Ellis, founder of Rational Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RECBT), This therapy highlights an important link between our beliefs, the way we think, feel and act, when we are negatively affected by an experience.  Ellis makes reference to 16th Century Philospher Epictus, who states, that it is not events specifically on their own, which cause emotional disturbance and distress, but it is the meaning we place on them. In other words, your perspective determines how you may respond to situations. In addition, other therapeutic approaches will also be included as needed, as one size does not fit all people.

Often times we may not always be aware of how our thoughts and actions may affect us, or how other people may also affect and impact our life. But it is important to note that external factors can influence how a person may respond to adversity and I do not diminish this experience; but I certainly acknowledge it.

My role here is to help you identify what the main issues are for you and also how these may be reflected in negative unhealthy thoughts, beliefs, emotions and actions in your life. I will assist you to address any problems that you are struggling with, causing you emotional and mental distress. I am very aware that coupled with emotional issues the body is also affected by tensions, headaches, aches and pains. This just increases the problems that you are already experiencing.

Throughout my working life I have thoroughly enjoyed working with people from all backgrounds. I feel a great reward in seeing people gain significant relief from emotional, mental and psychological distress. So I am happy to assist you to create some balance, to significantly improve your thinking, feelings, actions and your life. I will include things like relaxation methods, deep breathing techniques, visualisation, prayer meditation and personalised spa treatments. All to bring about lasting recovery in your mind and body.
